Happy Thanksgiving from the Crushing Iron Podcast. Despite the title, this podcast is more about grace and gratitude.

Today we take a look at how to be thankful for the ABILITY to do triathlon. It's easy to get into a funk, but that doesn't mean your year is ruined and you're not going to have a great season. The key is not BECOMING your rut. When's the last time you were proud of the process of how you emerged from the funk? We may not be where we want to be, but we've made the choice to get there.

You aren’t today’s workout
Dark times and Blessings
Not getting ahead of yourself
Gratitude reminders
Experiences vs. Numbers
When You Should Look Back
Bad places are ok, just don’t live there

Squadcasts are ongoing series of interviews with the C26 Athletes. Traditional Crushing Iron Podcasts will continue to release on Monday and Thursday every week.

Imagine being on stage with a panel of judges picking apart every flaw of your body. Erika Jurkowski was there and hated not only that, but the lifestyle. She was bringing her own meals to dinner parties and eating out of Tupperware while everyone else feasted. She wanted to have fun again, so she dove into triathlon with the same passion as bodybuilding. She recently finished Ironman Louisville and today she tells her story on the C26 Squadcast.

- The challenge that changed her life
- Why body building made her start to hate herself
- Going from 500 calories a day to 500 on a long bike ride
- Fear of the Swim
- What convinced her to leave body building
- From figuring out how to swim to signing up to a Half
- Was she more nervous for a Sprint or Ironman?
- How her lifestyle set her up for the fast track to Ironman
- Her post-Ironman struggles
- What's next?
- The emotional roller coaster of the journey.
- Her favorite part of training for an Ironman

Something was missing in Somer Scandridge's life. She loved being a mom and taking care of her two kids every day, but she began to resent the fact that she didn't have something for herself. Her husband was gone every day finding fulfillment in a job that he loved while she felt she was lacking adult interaction. What started as a couple's spin bike venture quickly turned into a new and deep passion. Today she shares her story and encourages other stay at home moms (or dads) to ignite a new fire. And how that passion has made the entire family happier.

Squadcasts is an ongoing series with our current C26 Triathlon athletes. They will be added as bonus podcasts within the main released casts on Monday and Thursday. We hope that you enjoy hearing stories from everyday athletes who have similar challenges and struggles as they grow in the sport.

One of the hardest parts of training is getting out of our own way. It's very easy to go "too hard" or "not go" when it comes to workouts, so having a clear grasp on WHAT'S RIGHT FOR YOU is the biggest part. Sometimes it's all about training your "state" of mind and body. Are you talking yourself into something that will hurt you in the long run? Track workouts, Off Days, Training Ruts, and bagging races.

Topics for today:

Working out when sick
The Hardest Part of Running
The power of not racing
Truth about track workouts
Are you running too fast?
Coaching Pet Peeves
One day off per week method??
Talking yourself into the wrong decision
Training Ruts
Just put the shoes on
Holiday workout challenges
When You Have to much going on
The “Menu” workout plan
Why We Like Daylight Savings Time

We shouldn't decide to go pro or quit based on one workout . . . or race. The key to racing well is enjoying training, and that takes patience. The short-term power in being able to let go of the outcome. The ability to "be in the moment" is much different than being a prisoner of that moment and today we lay out several different ways to stay energized about the long-term potential of your triathlon experience. Topics include:

  • Quick World Series recap and analogy of how you can be more like the Astros.
  • Progress Not Perfection
  • Don’t Cut Down the forest, keep planting
  • Do you have the courage to let go of the outcome?
  • Prisoner of the Moment
  • Shiny new objects
  • How do you enjoy “what is?”
  • Making workouts attainable
  • Enjoying getting better
  • Hurry Slowly
  • PRs without intent

- How negative thoughts manifest in your body
- We create our world through thoughts and the body responds
- Thoughts have to be entertained to have power
